Volendam
This old fishing village is famous for its splendid harbour, fishing trade, authentic Dutch character and traditional clothing.
Marken
This picturesque little village was originally situated on an island, the inhabitants created artificial dwelling hills on which they build their houses.
What to expect
At the desired time, an experienced English-speaking professional driver will pick you up from your accommodation in a private vehicle ready to share the historical facts, the necessary information about the sights and, of course, his personal input in order to immerse you into the Dutch lifestyle.
First, after a 30-minute ride, you will reach Zaanse Schans, a residential area where the 18th and 19th centuries come to life. Along the way, you will see various authentic workshops where the traditional wooden clog – shoes are made. Do not miss out on visiting the cheese factory, the pewter foundry, and the famous Dutch windmills.
Next stop – Volendam. Here you will find the best-known fishing villages in Holland. The village has a beautiful harbor full of Dutch ships. From there you can take a boat trip to Marken. Do not forget to take a picture wearing traditional Volendam outfits! Learn more about Volendam in one of the museums there.
Finally, you will reach the third province – Marken. It was separated from the mainland by the storm in the 13th century. This catastrophe was followed by centuries of isolation of Marken population. Soon, the area became beloved by the local fishermen.
